This is beautiful, sad, and complex. In the few experiences I have had with dying loved ones, rarely is the decision about how to proceed as simple or straightforward as we wish it would be, even with advanced directives and previous discussions in place. As with this lady, it’s very challenging to appropriately meet the needs of someone whose cognition is changing radically, and not on all levels at once. It’s a humbling thing.
